Description

A community-building and learning event centering new BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and disabled students.

New students, kick your time at Western off right by learning about programs and services that center BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and disabled students. Grow your understanding of ways to care for yourself and build inclusive intercultural communities in your classes, residence halls, clubs, and beyond. This Western Welcome event will include mini workshops about:

  • Building networks of personal and community care
  • Interrupting microaggression and acting in solidarity with BIPOC, disabled, and LGBTQ+ people
  • Tools for self-care at a predominantly white university
  • Disability etiquette
  • Healthy queer relationships

Brought to you by the Access, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADEI) Unit: Disability Access Center, LGBTQ+ Western, Multicultural Student Services. Following the event, join us in the Multicultural Center for food and socializing!

Curious about why we use the term "disabled students" instead of "students with disabilities"? The Association on Higher Education and Disability shares information about this decision at this link.

Please contact the Disability Access Center at drs@wwu.edu or (360) 650-3803 to request accommodations.
